Cake and Trivia: photos!

Seventy-two Canadians mingled, drank Molson, ate poutine and Canada Day cake, answered trivia questions and sweated profusely at today’s Canada Day Cake and Trivia event! A million thanks to staff at Sammy’s for hosting us on the patio on this hot summer day (38 Celsius) and providing us with Canadian treats and lots of water. We loved the bilingual sign at the door!

Additional thanks to Royal Bank of Canada, Winnipeg Jets, Consulate General of Canada in Atlanta and private individuals for donating freebies used as raffle and trivia prizes. A big thank you to Susana, Ian, Shesha and Caroline for making it all happen.

Enjoy the pics and stay cool!

Music in the Gardens: The Sadies (June 27)

A Canadian rock and roll / country and western band from Toronto, Ontario, The Sadies will be playing at Sarah P. Duke Gardens on Wednesday, June 27 at 7 pm.

Versatile and imaginative, they skip from astral psychedelia to shuffling bucolics and leap from puckish pop to righteous garage-rock without losing momentum or mastery. They’ve worked with a veritable roots-rock hall of fame, whether backing Neko Case for years, supporting Neil Young during a tribute to The Band, or joining X’s Jon Doe or Jon Spencer for full-length collaborations. But their albums, released since 2002 by North Carolina’s own Yep Roc, deliver masterclasses on pointed songwriting, lockstep harmonies, and a devil-may-care attitude to expectations and past successes.

CNNC Leadership Team is seeking an event coordinator!

We are looking for an enthusiastic Canadian who is interested in coordinating CNNC events throughout the year, whether it’s Third Thursday Networking, Canada Day or other networking gatherings.

The CNNC event coordinator will contributed event ideas, contact venues, set up registration or ticket sales using Eventbrite, recruit hosts for events, write up promo blurbs for the CNNC website and social media, and help with survey or membership emails regarding these events as well as attend said events whenever their schedule permits. The event coordinator is considered a full member of the CNNC Leadership Team and will work closely with the president and social media coordinator.

The best candidate will work well both independently and as part of team, will contribute to discussions and respond quickly to emails, and will attend the rare CNNC meetings.  They will also have sufficient volunteer time to devote to the various tasks required for the coordination of CNNC events (time varies based on number or size of events at any given time).

Interested Canadians should send the CNNC Leadership Team an email introducing themselves and describing the skills and interests they possess to successfully coordinate CNNC events.

Please contact us before June 11.
